An example of outlier and pattern analysis based on forward mapping from ICD-9-CM Vol.3 and ICD-10-PCS. Figure a, b show red dots for outlier maps where \(Z(\alpha )\) and \(Z(\beta )\) scores are greater than the chosen threshold. For illustration purposes, the threshold were determined (2.7 for \(Z(\alpha )\) and 2.85 for \(Z(\beta )\), so that only the top 1% of the cases are isolated.
