Process diagram outlining the implementation of the question answering system (FOQUS). 1) The knowledge base ontology is loaded by the QA system and assertion triples are extracted from the OWL file. This includes the domain and range of the assertion triples. 2) The question passed on from the COO is consumed by the QA system and is parsed by natural language processing methods for noun and verb phrases and denotes the question type. 3) The data from the question is compared to assertion triple data, and similarity scores are assigned to each triple. 4) The scored assertion triples are analyzed and filtered based on scoring rules.
