The x-axis shows the trial number and the y-axis shows the number of drugs entered in each trial. Only the number of drugs entered in Trial 3 was used in the primary analysis to avoid any problems with “learning curve”. The magnitude of the learning curve was estimated by taking for each participant the average of two pairs of numbers of drugs entered: (Trial 3 categorical – Trial 1 categorical) and (Trial 3 alphabetical – Trial 1 alphabetical). The mean ± standard deviation among participants of the average differences were 8.1 ± 3.4 drugs entered (P < 0.0001 in comparison to 0; N = 60).
