A context aware CPOE system. Depending on the prescription, the rule engine of the CDS system generates raw alerts (e.g. drug-drug interaction between acetylsalicylic acid and an anticoagulant). These raw alerts are then prioritized based on context information (e.g. the dose, the age of the patient, any co-medication, or information on the user or clinical department). Afterwards, the alerts are presented differently to the user according to their priority (e.g. life-threatening alerts interrupt the prescribing process and cannot be overridden). Alert IDs are chosen arbitrarily. Figure by Riedmann and Jung published originally in [23].
